Another Year, Another Chapter

Today is my birthday. 🎂
Birthdays have a way of making you pause for a moment. Not just to celebrate another year, but to reflect on where you've been, what you've experienced, the lessons you've learned, and—perhaps most importantly—the people who have been part of your journey.
Today, as I received birthday wishes through messages, texts, phone calls, and social media, I found myself thinking about just how incredibly fortunate I am.
There are people in my life from so many different chapters—family, friends, colleagues, former colleagues, neighbours, acquaintances, and people I've simply crossed paths with along the way. Some I've known for decades, some for only a short time, and some may not even realize the impact they've had on my life.
But every connection has its own story.
And when you reach a certain point in life, you begin to understand that those stories—the people, the experiences, the challenges, and the moments of joy—are what make us who we are.
This year, more than most, I've been thinking about the journey.
I've been blessed with moments I never want to take for granted. Watching my family grow, becoming a grandmother to little Shepherd, and seeing the love that comes with a new generation has been one of those beautiful reminders that life continues to surprise us in the most wonderful ways. There is something incredibly special about holding a new little life and realizing that there are still so many chapters of our family story yet to be written.
I've also experienced change.
Career changes. New beginnings. Difficult decisions. Moments when I've had to step back and ask myself what I really want for the next chapter of my life.
Some changes have been exciting. Others have been challenging. And some have reminded me that not every place or circumstance is meant to be permanent.
But perhaps that is part of growing older—learning that moving forward doesn't always mean having everything figured out. Sometimes it simply means having the courage to acknowledge when something isn't right and trusting yourself enough to choose a different path.
Life has certainly taught me about resilience.
Twenty years ago, I faced a chapter I never would have chosen for myself. Today, I am incredibly grateful to say that I am 20 years cancer-free. đź’š
Twenty years.
That milestone means something different to me than it might to someone else. It is a reminder that life can change in an instant, that we don't always know what the future holds, and that some of the things we once feared can eventually become the very experiences that teach us how precious life really is.
I have learned that being resilient doesn't mean you never get tired, frustrated, disappointed, or afraid.
It means you keep going.
Sometimes you keep going with confidence. Sometimes you take one small step at a time. And sometimes you simply remind yourself that you've survived difficult days before, and you'll find your way through this one too.
Maybe that's why I've never really believed in being defeated.
Dented? Absolutely.
Life leaves a few dents along the way. It changes us. It gives us scars, lessons, stories, and perspectives we didn't have before.
But those dents don't diminish us.
They become part of our story.
And as I look toward this next chapter, I find myself wanting something a little different. I want a life that feels meaningful. A life where I can use the experience I've gained, continue to grow, contribute, laugh more, worry less, and spend time with the people who matter most.
I want more adventures. More travel. More time with family. More moments with my grandson that I will treasure forever. More opportunities to do things simply because they bring me joy.
And I want to continue creating.
Writing. Sharing stories. Maybe finally giving some of those ideas that have been living in my head a chance to become something real.
Because I have come to realize that our stories are worth telling.
Not because they're perfect, but because they're ours.
There have been chapters of my life that I would happily relive, and others I wouldn't wish to repeat. There have been people who stayed, people who left, people who surprised me, and people who taught me lessons I didn't know I needed to learn.
I am grateful for all of them.
As I begin another year, I don't have everything figured out—and I'm okay with that.
I still have dreams. I still have goals. I still have places I want to see, things I want to accomplish, people I want to love, and memories I want to make.
And maybe that's the greatest gift of getting older: realizing that there is still so much life ahead.
So today, I'm not just celebrating another birthday.
I'm celebrating life.
I'm celebrating 20 years of being cancer-free.
I'm celebrating my family and the joy of watching it grow.
I'm celebrating a new little grandson who has already captured my heart.
I'm celebrating the strength it has taken to navigate the difficult chapters and the courage it takes to begin new ones.
I'm celebrating the lessons, the laughter, the tears, the successes, the disappointments, the unexpected turns, and all the moments in between.
And most of all, I'm celebrating the people.
To everyone who took a moment out of your day to wish me a Happy Birthday—thank you. 🙏🤗🥰
Every message, every call, every text, every post, and every kind word brought a smile to my face. You may not realize how much it means to know that someone thought of you on your birthday, but it truly does.
I am grateful to know you.
I am grateful that our paths crossed.
And I am grateful that, in some way, you are part of my story.
As I turn the page on another year, I don't know exactly what the next chapter will bring.
But I know this:
I'm still here.
I'm still dreaming.
I'm still learning.
I'm still growing.
I'm still laughing.
I'm still loving.
And I'm still looking forward to what comes next.
Maybe that's what birthdays are really about—not counting the years behind us, but being grateful for the life within them and excited about the years still waiting to be lived.
So here's to another year.
Another chapter.
More adventures. More laughter. More love. More family. More courage. More purpose.
And hopefully, a whole lot more living.
Because life is a gift.
And after everything, I intend to keep unwrapping it. ❤️
Thank you for being part of my journey.
